I would love it if rainbows and butterflies existed with every ad campaign; it’d be amazing if they all worked perfectly and never sucked. Unfortunately, a really bad idea is bound to get an OK. The frequency of this within the game industry is just alarming. This rant isn’t just at Square Enix, but rather every publisher that attempts to OK something like this. I don’t sugarcoat much in it, either. The message is simple: try harder. It shouldn’t be that hard to come up with good ideas about how to market video games to gamers when the industry itself is made up of them! Here’s the link to the Rock Paper Shotgun article I mention in the video detailing what the game was.

“GUISE, WE HAVE PEOPLE INSULT THEIR FRIENDS! THAT WILL MAKE EVERYONE WANT TO BUY HITMAN: ABSOLUTION!” “GEENYUS!”

Oh my god. That is awful. I’m just beginning to study advertising and it’s blatantly evident on every level (no pun intended) that that is just a tragic idea. I mean, whatever, points for creativity? Barely, actually. I agree though. Anyone can come up with the idea, but the real crime is in the person/people that actually greenlit that shit.
