Shigesato Itoi, the creator of the Mother/Earthbound series has created a bit of a stir with his recent tweets hinting at a possible upcoming Mother release.
I think we are all hoping that this could finally be the localization and port of Mother 3 to the West, perhaps on the Wii U Virtual Console or Nintendo 3DS eShop. There are myriad possibilities, but one option is apparently “out of the question,” and that’s the release of a Mother 4. Itoi denied that it would ever be made back in 2008, and he still stands by that.
His tweet roughly translates to:
It’s not “(MOTHER) 4″, though! This has to do with making “MOTHER” playable. I can’t give out any details just yet, but I do at least need to say that it isn’t 4.
When he refers to Mother, that could span across the entire series. ROMs of any game of the series, translated and all, are really just a click away on the Internet. Would a simple way overdue port be sufficient to satisfy the fans overseas? It’s a long shot, but with the Nintendo 3DS, there is potential for a remake(s), particularly something the fanbase has not already played. All that is left is more of the waiting game. Here’s to a sturdy announcement without waiting through another couple of decades.
