TGS – BlazBlue: Chronophantasma Hands-On Preview

BlazBlue: Chronophantasma is the latest chapter  into the BlazBlue narrative arc. I got to play a little bit of the game at Tokyo and tried out 2 of the several new characters shown off in the demo, Bullet and Terumi.

Bullet, otherwise known as Busty Punch, is a fantastic new character in terms of my style of play. She’s an aggressively melee-focused character with launching and grappling abilities that make her insanely lethal in close quarters combat. Seriously, she is fantastically fun to play as with a rapid style of never-ending barrages, granted you can pull them off.

Terumi, for those of you don’t know, is the evil entity residing in series mainstay Hazama, and is now a separately playable character. No longer the ranged character that can zip across screen, Terumi is a much more aggressive character with a signature stomping move that seems multiplied from his original boss character from the previous game. His range is shorter but he still has those green vectors that cause problems to anyone within his AT Field.

The game is still one of the prettiest fighting games around with sprites that puts polygons to shame. The roster is insanely large for a BlazBlue title, and seems to be growing with Kokone having been announced as a playable character this week. Expect Chronophantasma to arrive as a PlayStation 3-exclusive in North America in early 2014.
