One of the greatest hurdles Valve will have to jump with their new, offbeat Steam Controller is making keyboard-intensive games like Dota 2 playable from the couch. Although it’s easier to simply write off such an idea, Valve is committed to making such games controller-friendly.
In an interview with Polygon at CES, Valve’s Jeff Bellinghausen said “… it’s a real challenge, but would also be really exciting. To be able to play Dota from the couch is a really neat opportunity.” Bellinghausen went on to say “It’s also something that’s pushing the performance and resolution of the trackpad.”
Although it has proven possible to play Dota using the Steam controller, Valve isn’t looking to completely replace the mouse and keyboard. The move to the controller may just come at the expense of in-game player performance, but the idea behind the controller as a whole was really more about bringing Steam into the living room rather than trying to completely change the input PC games use.
