Marvel Announces They Won’t Release a Crappy Licensed Avengers Game

Gamers know most licensed games tend to suck. It seems like the minds over at Marvel are starting to get wise to that too. In an interview with IGN, TQ Jefferson, Marvel’s head of games, said that if a game based on the Avengers is going to come out, it will be put in the hands of a developer they trust and that the dev team will have as much time as they need to put out a quality product.

The Avengers game will come when we have the right partner, that has the right vision, that has the time to develop a strong, competitive triple-A title and wants to do it right. It has to hit our three pillars: Fun and engaging gameplay, true to the characters, compelling story. Without hitting those notes, we shouldn’t do it. Gamers, they know better. They’re not going to flock to something that’s sub-par.

Jefferson admitted that the licensed games that released for Iron Man, Thor, and Captain America “sucked” and that “[Marvel] got a bloody nose on both of those.” Marvel has been firing on all cylinders over the past few years and if they can stay this course, their dominance can and will extend to gaming. In the meanwhile, gamers waiting for that eventual Avengers game can look forward to Disney Infinity: Marvel Super Heroes which will release later this year.

Hi! I'm the Managing Editor here at Twinfinite. I'm more than a little bit crazy but I'm great at hiding it. When I'm not gaming on XBL (Muazimus Prime) or PSN (MuazimusPrime), you can find me reading mountains of comic books or watching an obscene amount of movies. I LOVE the Mass Effect series and can't be your friend if you don't love it too.
