Much to my disappointment, co-director of the Kingdom Hearts series Tai Yasue confirmed that the Mirage Arena in Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep will not support online play via PSN in Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 ReMIX.
This was confirmed during Square Enix’s E3 presentation over on the Square Enix Presents YouTube channel.
The reason for this was because working on the Mirage Arena would have taken time away from the development for Kingdom Hearts III and this was something the team wanted to avoid. That said, Yasue mentioned that they did make some tweaks and additions to the single-player portion to make the game more enjoyable.
You will still be able to play with other people in different events and challenges, such as the Arena Mode which allowed you to fight enemies and bosses. You’ll also be able to play the Command Board mini-game and race in the Rumble Racing mini-game in Disney Town with your friends locally.
Not having online play for Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep was a mistake, in my opinion, as this would have been an addition completely new to the Kingdom Hearts series and would definitely have been a big incentive for people to buy the game. Well, it is what it is. Birth By Sleep is still very much a strong entry in the Kingdom Hearts series without the multiplayer, and I’m still looking forward to getting this for my PS3.
Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 ReMIX will be available for the PS3 on 2nd December in North America and on 5th December in Europe.
