4 Most Visually Stunning Games this Generation (So Far)

7

More than ever, gamers everywhere seem to be clamoring over the importance of framerate and resolution of a game. This generation has only been alive for a mere eight months or so, but in that short life of its, it has produced several incredibly beautiful games. Here are the games from this generation thus far that will drop your jaw and take home this season’s title of Twinfinite’s Next Top Model.

Killzone Shadow Fall

Killzone Shadow Fall
The Killzone series has always looked pretty dark and bleak. Something happened with Killzone Shadow Fall, however, where Guerilla Games decided to take a turn with its art style. No longer were players to be trapped in war-torn and industrial environments. Instead we were given the chance to delve into forests and bright, colorful cities, among various other locales. The detail allotted in just about every aspect of the game’s visuals helps to propel Shadow Fall as one of the best looking games today. Run around maps and you’ll find such subtleties as plant life and cracks on the road that seem crafted from the hands of a Renaissance sculptor. Except, y’know, with guns and sci-fi.

Still, another great plus to the world of Killzone Shadow Fall is just how vast and expansive it is. Stand at any high point and you can see a beautiful, nearly endless world in front of you. Gander below you at the minutiae of the city or look high and take in the skyline. Any which way you look, Shadow Fall certainly has something for you to ogle at. At a beautiful 1080p, Shadow Fall‘s details all come to life. And though it may not run at 60 frames per second, a clever use of motion blur helps to hide some of its more jagged moments pretty well.

Alex is the name. I'm a 20-something year old student of law at the University of Florida. Some of my favorite games are Pokemon, Mass Effect, Persona, Titanfall, and Final Fantasy. Outside of games, I lose my cool for such things as the Chicago Bears, Florida Gators, Doctor Who, Game of Thrones, and Power Rangers. Always happy to have a conversation about literally everything besides Seinfeld. Send me stupidities on Twitter @thecastroregime!

Great stuff. I’d personally have Super Mario 3D World right up there. Also (and I realize it’s not explicitly ‘next gen’ or whatever), A Link Between Worlds on the 3DS is absolutely gorgeous.

Good list, next time don’t be afraid to praise MK8 for the tech marvel that it is, from the draw distance, particle effects and buttery smooth frame rate all the way down to levels reflecting off of Roy’s shades this game looks friccking amazing!

Perfect list of games, all of these games have made me stop playing at some point and just look at the beautifully created environments and graphics.

In terms of console visuals, games like inFamous, Mario Kart, Killzone just wowed me the first I laid eyes on them. Mario Kart 8 proves, the Wii U can produce lovely visuals. Looking forward to UC4, Zelda Wii U and more :)

Oh look, all console games, what a surprise.

And Infamous used cheap techniques to make it look better than it is. SMAA is a form of AA coded and used specifically for weak hardware, read up on it peasants.

Lots of bloom, lens flare and wet textures all add up to a mediocre game using cheap, non-demanding tricks on the eye.

Yeah, the particle effects are nice. And to get them to work, an insultingly small map was made, WITH NOTHING IN IT, and the FPS is all over the place, AND it was “pushing the PS4 to the limit”.

Infamous SS is an example of sacrifices made to make a game look good to make console owners think their console is insanely powerful, generating sales.

Wow, that’s a serious PC tech-head in u. Regardless of techniques, console games can look gorgeous, and visually, some exclusives looking even nicer than some PC titles.
Gameplay wise, PCs are uber sharp for certain genres with their mouse and keyboard. But games designed properly for console controllers can out shine PCs in other genres.
PCs are not the ultimate be all and end all of quality gaming
