Phil Robb, Creative Director over at Turtle Rock Studios recently told IGN in an interview that all DLC maps Evolve will be available to players completely free of charge.
According to Robb, the reasoning behind the decision was to make sure Evolve is as inclusive as possible within the multiplayer environment. Turtle Rock didn’t want players to be kicked out of certain matches just because they hadn’t bought a DLC pack.
“First thing we said was we can’t break the community up, so all of our maps will be free. We never want anyone to get booted off of a server because they haven’t bought something.”
The DLC that will eventually be made available for purchase includes monster and hunter packs. These are not mandatory in any way but they do include new monsters and hunters that might just enhance your experience. If you want to play with a friend who bought a new monster or hunter DLC, you can with absolutely no issues. You won’t be able to play as the same characters, but you’ll always be able to play together.
Evolve is slated for release on February 10th, 2015. Players who pre-order the game will receive the first monster DLC for free.
