Some good news has come for those of you that have been patiently waiting for the climax to Double Fine’s adventure game, Broken Age.
Double Fine sent out an email to Kickstarter backers that said the game has been sent for certification and that a release date will be announced next week. Part of the email reads as follows.
“Soooooooo, we’ve got something exciting to tell you all. WE JUST LOCKED THE BROKEN AGE RELEASE CANDIDATE!! After a solid month of pure bug squashing we have a build that’s looking super duper polished and ready to roll. Big props to the entire team for absolutely killing it and delivering something that really is everything we hoped it would be and more. I know it’s been a long wait, so thanks again for being so patient with us and allowing us to take the time we needed to make the game as good as possible!
So now what?! The build will sit in test for the next week while everyone on the team looks for any remaining issues that may have slipped through the cracks. Then it’s off to PlayStation 4 and Vita certification as well as pressing discs for the PC/Mac/Linux retail copy from our pals at Nordic Games. Those processes can take around a month, during which time we’ll be packaging up and prepping the iOS, Android, and Ouya builds so we can hit with everything on the same day!”
The email continues to outline a slew of coverage that will happen next week, including a release date and interviews with Broken Age director Tim Schafer.
It’s been a long wait for fans of Double Fine’s latest adventure game. Broken Age started life as a Kickstarter project on February 8th, 2012 under the ambiguous name, Double Fine Adventure. The game went on to far exceed it’s funding goal, reaching over $3.3 million. The game was eventually split into two parts, the first of which released in January of 2014. The success of the game’s funding and it’s ongoing development has become a major talking point for the viability of crowd-funding in video games. An in-depth making-of documentary series by 2 Player Productions has coincided with the development of the game.
