In a blog post on Halo Waypoint, Microsoft lists a series of instructions that could potentially save any Spartan from launch day woes.
Gamers who purchased Halo 5: Guardians digitally before September 21 and are not using “Instant On” power mode could be experiencing problems with the game before release.
The problem arises from a incorrect “stub file” for Halo 5: Guardians, a stub file is basically a placeholder file within the game. Players who digitally purchased the game before September 21, should simply delete Halo 5: Guardians off of their hard drive, and reinstall the title.
If you aren’t quite certain on how to check to see if your Halo 5: Guardians file might be affected — here’s a quick way to check:
- Highlight the Halo 5: Guardians tile in My games & apps
- Press the following buttons down at the same time: Left Trigger, Right Trigger, View Button
- A new window should appear displaying the version number of the game installed
- If your version number is 0.0.0.3, you’ve got the correct version, and you’re ready to download the necessary updates when they become available.
- If your version number is 0.0.0.2, you’ve got the incorrect stub file, and will need to delete that version and reinstall the game.
Only a small number of Halo 5 players will be affected but better safe than sorry. Are you guys excited for Halo: 5 Guardians? Let us know what game mode you’ll be playing first at launch in the comments!
