David Cage Talks About PS4 Exclusive Detroit’s Story, Emotion, and More

Emotion is the key word of today's developer diary.

Earlier today, Sony released a developer diary for Quantic Dream’s new PS4 exclusive title Detriot, where David Cage revealed some details about the title’s story. Oh, and he used the word emotion like it was going out of style.

In Detroit, players take control of a newly created android called Kara. Some players may remember Kara as she was the android in a PS3 tech demo back in 2011 and that tech demo is part of the reason why Detroit exists. According to David Cage, after they released that tech demo he was “frustrated” because he wanted to see how this Kara would react to the world.

David Cage revealed that Detroit will feature a brand new 3D game engine so that they can get the most out of the PS4, and it must be working because all the game footage from the developer diary is captured from the in-game engine and it looks amazing. However, while Detroit looks amazing, he noted that Quantic Dream is working on making it seem like a familiar world to the player. To this end, they went to Detroit to see the whole city for themselves. However, according to David Cage, the game shouldn’t be considered a sci-fi game because they “didn’t want to invent any technology that doesn’t exist in labs today.”

Near the end of the developer diary, David Cage gave some insight to Detroit’s gameplay when he revealed that “the entire game is really built around the idea that the player is co-writer of the experience and that he will tell his own story through his actions.” This means that players will have a significant impact on the game’s story, which David Cage promises will be emotional and will deal with the themes of what it means to be human.

So far, Detroit looks like it has the potential to be an awesome experience, but what do you think? Let us know in the comments section below.
