[Featurama] Twinfinite Joins the GDC Pirate Kart
The Pirate Kart is an event that has happened at GDC and IGF in the past few years. It is a showcase of hobbyist games created using anything and everything necessary to make something playable. Once the games have been made, they take them (regardless of quality) to showcase in front of all the great big developers attending these great developer only events. I would like to think it’s the only place where Epic’s Cliffy B and Carpe Fulgur’s Andrew Dice can sit together and play games of questionable quality created by their fans.
So far the Kart has recieved over 950 different titles for GDC 2012. We here at Twinfinite fully support this kind of creative push in the games industry and have created our own game based around the Knytt Stories level creator. As many of you know, Knytt Stories is a build your own exploration game from Nifflas Games. I used this as the base and tried to create a fully functioning game before GDC went live.
All you need is a copy of Knytt Stories to play it (don’t worry, it’s free)
[Making the Game]
I went in to this with a concept of designing the world structure around the Twinfinite logo. Stealing from the Twin concept, I decided to focus it around a lot of games that dealt with 2 identical players. Many of us here through names at the board and I was left with tons of characters I just simply couldn’t fit in to the game in an adequate time frame. While I’d have liked to added more characters to the game world, I was able to establish my goal of putting together different heroes from different games in to one.
While I did accidentally break the create a game in 2 hours rule, in Glorious Trainwreck fashion, I attempted to make something fun for people to play through.
