[News] Fight For Youth charity tournament is a huge success

With the negative press that often surrounds the fighting game community, a lot of the positive stuff going on in the scene is often pushed out of the limelight. Well here’s a bit of news from the other side of things.

This past weekend a charity tournament entitled Fight For Youth was held at Arturo Sanchez Elementary in Norwalk, California. The event was conceived by legendary Marvel vs. Capcom player, Daniel “Clockw0rk” Maniago, a former teacher at the school, to raise money for student activities. Clockw0rk is most well known for his creation of the Strider/Doom duo in Marvel vs. Capcom 2, and in recent memory, his insane first-to-15 money match versus his rival Neo at West Coast Warzone 3.

The one-day tournament included Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 singles and Street Fighter x Tekken doubles. As a fun incentive to raise money, after every collection milestone was reached, a player’s name was picked from a hat to have their head shaved live on stream. Unfortunately for Clockw0rk, one of those names was his.

As of the writing of this article, almost half of the $30,000 goal has been fulfilled in just one day of the five day donation drive. Information for the cause can be found here.
