[Wormlight] Radio the Universe
[Wormlight is a spotlight feature where we introduce something awesome and explain why it's worth your time]
Usually I don’t do Kickstarter posts talking about why you should really think about supporting a game because that’s their job. I however have been in a Zelda-like mood what with Binding of Isaac and Anodyne interviews back to back, so when I see something interesting pop up in my twitter feed from the charming Sophie Houlden of Swift+Stitch fame, I pay notice.
Radio the Universe is the new game from 6e6e6e which for all extents and purposes is a color, not a name. It’s premise lies in a psychological top down puzzle game with an attempt at creating permadeath. Whether this is true or not, we’ll see, but certainly the game shown looks absolutely stellar. We can see here a series of puzzles and tricky mechanisms to move past them.
In fact there is plenty to see here on the Kickstarter page. I don’t know about you, but when a developer maps out level structures, character abilities, and level concepts with a vid showcasing these, I start to get the belief that the game is actually getting made regardless of the help. So I only have to look at the asking price to see if this project is worth funding. Crazy thing is, a Kickstarter project running $12,000 is pretty cheap.
That’s because this funding is going to QA and full time time development costs according to the description. It’s believable certainly.
Here’s the reality though. The game has raised over $8,000 since I first laid eyes on it this morning. A growth curve like this leaves little doubt in my mind that it will be Kickstarted. Now it’s time to see where this game will go.
A $10 buy in gets people a copy of the game with $25 netting you the planned bonus content. So it has a good pricing structure on Kickstarter.
Why this game should be getting so much appeal is because it looks to combine great pixel art, atmospheric music and a bizarre setting set inside a world inspired by Zelda. It is something that I think Zelda fans in general have been looking for for a while now. A taste of something familiar in a flashy new world that’s trying to kill this hooded protagonist. The fact that it actually looks tricky only makes me want to get my hands on it that much more.
I’m not saying you should go out and send all your money to 6e6e6e, but you should look at that trailer and see if $10 to prepurchase it sounds right. It could get you a better game than what you are looking at. We’re keeping our eyes on this project over at Twinfinite and hopefully it will bear something truly special. It just looks so shiny.
