Video Game Box Artist Greg Martin Passes Away

In the days before the Internet, fans were only really able to get an impression of a new game by its box art. For many who came of age back then, the cover images of classic games are burned into our memories, and we owe it to the creativity of the artists who designed them. Sadly, one of those creators has passed away.

Greg Martin was the artist behind box covers for Sonic the Hedgehog, Pac-Man, Looney Tunes, and Adventure Island to name but a few. His work in many ways defined the 8 and 16-bit era with its colorful and evocative style. You can see a portfolio of his life’s work here.
