New Steam Tags Feature Being Used to Bully Devs and Games

In another attempt to jump on the social networking bandwagon, Valve rolled out a new tagging system for its Steam service.  Players can now group games based on what’s popular among users and friends and self-appointed tags to place games and products into their own categories.

Unfortunately some mean-spirited users have been using these tags to rip into game a bit more than they probably deserve.  Take this example of some tags used for popular indie game, Fez, which harbors quite a bit of ire from fans for some of the actions of creator, Phil Fish;

Yeah, some of these tags might be just a little bit more than unnecessary.  According to the FAQ on the new system, “mismatched” tags may arise from customers confused by information missing from the game page.  I got a pretty good feeling it’s a bit more complicated than that.
