REalM is an Indie Horror Game And First Game On The Square Enix Collective

I’m of the mind that fear isn’t based off of any pre-determined trigger. Sure, clowns are universally scary, but nightmares are all deeply personal, and there is a special curiosity with getting close to that which terrifies you most. Those were just thoughts in my head as I was looking at REalM, an indie horror platformer from developers Arbor Sheep and Authentic Illusions. You see, graphics are all fine and well, but the games that interest me the most are [...]

Silent Hill: Downpour Comic Spinoff, Anne’s Story Revealed at Wondercon

While I was unaware of this myself, it seems that a comic spinoff of Silent Hill: Downpour focusing on officer Anne Cunningham’s journey through Silent Hill and published by IDW Comics was in the works for a while. At Wondercon 2014, this project came to realization with IDW Comics announcing that Anne’s Story will release as a comic mini-series this summer on August 20th. The series, as the title suggests, will focus on Anne Cunningham who chased the protagonist(?) Murphy [...]

Several NIS upcoming titles were given western release dates last week. Artist’s “Genesis 2014″ Turns Video Games Into Religious Frescoes

What would art from the late Middle Ages look like if the likes of Giotto and Duccio got their hands onto classic Sega Genesis games like Street Fighter 2 or Space Invaders? Dan Hernandez, the sole artist behind the “Genesis 2014″ exhibit, dares to find out. Hernandez blends old religious stylizations with pop culture to form “eccentric comparisons” between 2 mediums you wouldn’t expect to get along. The title of the collection references both the Book of Genesis, the biblical creation stories, [...]

Nate Wells, Lead Artist for Last of Us, Leaves Naughty Dog for Giant Sparrow

Seems like there’s more job hopping around the video game industry these days than a something something frog analogy. That lackluster metaphor’s going to have to cut it for now, because Nate Wells, lead artist for The Last of Us, has left Naughty Dog and joined Giant Sparrow as an art director. This information comes via Nate Wells’s twitter profile, updated with his new title. Wells’s credentials include art for Bioshock, System Shock 2, and games of the Thief series. He’s also voice acted for a [...]

New Trailer for Batman: Assault on Arkham

Troy Baker, we’ll never be shot of him. Gruff gnarly voice man plays a starring role as legendary villain The Joker in upcoming Batman animated film Batman: Assault on Arkham. As the name would suggest, this cartoon will be linked to the recent Arkham branch of the universe. It hasn’t got the most original premise – The Joker has a bomb rigged to go off somewhere in Gotham, will Batman save the day? – but heck, it’s a superhero movie, get to the punching [...]

“One Button to Rule Them All” – Square Enix Awarded Patent for Single-Button System

One distinctive characteristic of Square Enix RPGs such as Final Fantasy is their battle systems. With each installment comes a completely new or reworked system by which combat occurs. Even in titles that are not as well-received, Square Enix games regularly get praise for being able to keep this aspect of their games fresh. Yesterday, Square Enix was rewarded a US patent (seen here) for a single-button RPG battle system. It was submitted by Hajime Tabata, co-Director for the upcoming [...]
