[News] Anime News Round-Up

There was a lot of anime news this past week. So much so that rather than do one for each, I thought it more economical (read: lazy) to bundle them up together so that you’ll have your one stop anime news post. Hit the jump for this week’s new releases, announcement news, and random extras.

[News] Oni Press Has a Groupees Bundle

Well here’s a new bundle that’s somewhat interesting.  Groupees is running a special bundle (because they are the special bundle people of course) that is coupling comic books together.  This screams promotional event, but what you get is something quite interesting. For only $1 you can purchase issues 1-4 (issue 5 unlocks at 500 sales) of Secret History of D.B. Cooper by Brian Churilla.  For the low low price of $5, you get the Guerillas first volume on top of [...]

[News] New Trailer for Evangelion 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo

Or Evangelion: Q in which the “Q” stands for Quickening. I can hardly keep track anymore to be honest with you. A new trailer was released yesterday showing off more scenes from the next installment of the Rebuild series. There’s religious motifs, new characters, and more pirate Asuka. So yeah pretty much everything that’s good with the world. Hell even the title of the song screams EVA (The Wrath of God, in All it’s Fury by Shiro Sagisu). I. Cannot. [...]

[News] NIS America Localizing Denpa Onna, Gives Awesome New Name

NIS America announced recently that they will be bringing SHAFT’s alien (self-proclaimed) girl anime formerly known as Denpa Onna to Seishun Otoko in Japan to the states. I say formerly because the localized title is the even more amazing: Ground Control to Psychoelectric Girl. Who doesn’t love a David Bowie reference? The story follows a boy who moves in with his aunt to live in the city. He’s content with his adolescence and assigns points to his everyday activities either [...]

[News] Funimation Announces 2 New Licenses

Well here are a pair of nice announcements from Funimation.  Mamoru Hosoda’s Wolf Children Ame and Yuki and Shonen Jump’s odd battle manga Toriko have had their anime distribution rights picked up.  Personally I’m more psyched or Ame and Yuki as I am a huge Mamoru Hosoda fan. His work on Summer Wars and the Girl Who Leapt Through Time are stellar and even the Digimon Adventure movie was pretty good. Toriko on the other hand is an odd little [...]

[News] Persona 4 Blu-Ray Will Not Have Japanese Dub

Sentai Filmworks have confirmed that, at the request of the Japanese licensor, the US Blu-ray release of Persona 4 The Animation Collection 1 will only include the English dub of the show. The price has been lowered to $59.98 from the original $69.98 to reflect the absence. I’m sort of disappointed by this news but luckily the original English voice cast was pretty great so it’s not a complete loss. I just enjoy having options. How does the news hit [...]

[News] Humble Music Bundle is Live

When we talked about the last Humble Bundle, it made it seem like it was the biggest one yet.  It probably was and the success was justified.  Now we sit with a new bundle and people have to ask if this will top it.  This bundle probably won’t hit the same success, but it should. Shirking video games for music, the Humble Music Bundle is a collection of some of the finest composers from around the world.  The albums are [...]

[News] Kickstarter Project for OC ReMix Final Fantasy VI Collection Cancelled

Love or hate Kickstarter, it’s a part of our lives now. But one recent project that steamrolled past its goal and already had several updates posted appears to have been cancelled: OverClocked ReMix’ Final Fantasy VI collection. The collection, as with all others produced by OC ReMix, would have been free to download for all, but a physical four-disc set was being pressed as one of the rewards. Current speculation on the OC ReMix forums is that a copyright concern [...]

[News] Section23 Films Announce October Releases!

Oh snap! Section23 film has announced its October releases via its anime arm Sentai Filmworks. Titles include Mayo Chiki, Detroit Metal City, Heaven’s Memo Pad, and Un-Go. The list is actually a lot longer which I will go into detail shortly but from the looks of it October seems to be a big month for the company as a lot of heavy hitters will be arriving on DVD and Blu-Ray. Hit the jump for titles, synopsis and release dates!

[News] Mech Combat Game Hawken Will Get Movie Treatment

I… I don’t know why more people aren’t talking about this. Maybe it’s because, historically speaking, movies with robots have sucked. But things in the future will be different – not only are we going to get a Boilerplate movie, but IGN is reporting that we’ll also be treated to a movie adaptation of the upcoming mech combat game Hawken.
