[News] Gamer Charities: Press Paws Show in February and Other Recent Events

We gamers know how to raise money for charity and have a blast in the meantime. Whether it’s gaming ’til we drop on a live stream, accepting challenges from donors, or just selling some art, gamers have recently been raising all kinds of money for some worthy causes. Most recently, the World of Warcraft community raised an incredible over 2.3 million dollars for Hurricane Sandy relief, and the whole thing was conducted in-game with a special pet as the incentive [...]

[News] World of Warcraft Seemingly Hacked

Earlier today the World of Warcraft forums were flooded with a number of topics saying World of Warcraft has been hacked. The video posted above depicts a level one character reigning havoc in Stormwind, instantly killing any player at their whim and causing a ton of confusion to players. The servers were taken down earlier today for a routine server restart, and they are still not back online. There isn’t any official word from Blizzard regarding the hacking, only a [...]

[Rant] Put Your Name On It

In 2012, there have been what seems like a never-ending stream of stories making the rounds about issues of sexism, racism, homophobia, and general dickish behavior in the games industry. Remember these gems? Female participant in a fighting game tournament is sexually harassed by a male counterpart. She later backs off saying it was no big deal when the fighting game community rallies around him. Media Critic Anita Sarkeesian uses Kickstarter for a media project about representation of women in [...]

[Rant] Diablo III Burnout

It’s been two months since I’ve ridden on the hype train and bought Diablo III. Since then, I’ve had massive fun slaughtering countless baddies in the rush to inferno. I’ve spent way too much time scouring the auction house for a good deal, clicked my way through the best builds and tips for Demon Hunters, and probably spent a third of my playtime helping my friends get through their own quests because I was so ahead. I even wrote a [...]

[Review] Diablo 3

Being the long-awaited (and delayed) sequel to the immensely popular hack-and-slash Diablo II, it is no surprise this game has been the subject of very high expectations before release. Did the game live up to the hype?

[Featurama] Will Future Gamers Be Able to Play This Generation?

With the rocky release of Diablo III, I figured now would be as good a time as any to just make a few observations about the strangeness of modern gaming in general. Gaming has changed so much in just the past ten years that it only slightly resembles what it used to be. Features that were considered unique in prior generations are now standards in modern games. Downloadable content and internet connection has literally changed the way we play and [...]

[Featurama] Starcraft Casuals

A trend becoming more and more prominent in the gaming world today is the one of Gaming Lounges.  For those of you who don’t know, places like Ignite Network here in Chicago, are awesome places for gamers to do what they do best.   Game. This past week I attended my first event held at a gaming lounge, and absolutely adored it.  This particular event was for Starcraft, but I know this particular location has many different games to choose [...]
