Learn to Make Realistic Videogame Props with William Jakespeare

Have you ever thought to yourself, “Man, ya know what would be awesome? If I had a life-size replica of the (instantly recognizable weapon) from (the popular videogame franchise)! But the cosplay ones you can get online are just too damn expensive!” For example, it’s hard to find a decent, full-size replica of the Aperture Science Portal device for anything under $200. And, moments ago, I found a Geth Pulse Rifle from the Mass Effect series going for a whopping [...]

Man at Arms Forges Halo’s Energy Sword

Imagine, for a moment, a lighthearted gathering: you and your friends are huddled around a TV playing videogames together. Everyone’s laughing and having a good time. But even the closest of friends can turn on one another, given the right circumstances. Playing Mario Party, for instance. That game has seriously destroyed friendships. But in my friend group, it was Halo 2 that caused the most squabbling. Four of us would be playing when someone would inevitably find the Energy Sword [...]

Microsoft explains absense of Halo for Xbox One launch

The initial success of the Xbox one, not Xbox One, was in part due to Bungie’s first-person shooter Halo: Combat Evolved. Bungie’s shooter was responsible for moving more than a million units of Xbox. Microsoft’s 343 Industries now carries the torch and released Halo 4 in 2012, their first solely developed title for the Xbox 360. However, that almost wasn’t the case according to Microsoft Studios’ head Phil Spencer: “A couple of years ago we had the discussion of: ‘Should [...]

Note from Editor Matt: You know not everybody wants a video game this Christmas. Sometimes, sometimes they want something else, something that says, “Hey, I’m a nerd, it’s the holidays, let’s celebrate.” This Holiday Gift Guide section is for you. ThinkGeek’s 8-Bit Tie, Recommended By Yami Price: $14.99  I’ve worn this tie many times and I’m almost always asked where I got it when I wear it to conventions. Now you know. Keep my secret, for I have been charitable with you. You’re [...]

Halo: Initiation #1 – The Sarah Palmer Chronicles

When I reviewed Halo 4 a few months ago, one of the major positives of the game was 343′s focus on improving the storytelling aspect of Halo 4 as compared to the previous Bungie developed games. Instead of the unstoppable armored engine of destruction Master Chief was portrayed as in the original trilogy, Halo 4 showed that while he was still a one man army in the field, he was also a human under all that armor. Another character that straddled [...]

[Review] Halo 4: 343 Does Bungie Better Than Bungie

Fans have been eagerly awaiting this newest release in the Halo series for what feels like forever. This enthusiasm was tempered with some serious concerns. Fans didn’t know if the hand over to 343 Industries would be successful. I’m relieved to say that they went above and beyond any and all expectations. They did such a great job, my amazing coworker Brett McLeod (also Twinfinite’s multiplayer Halo master), demanded to contribute and wrote a little piece detailing his experiences with the multiplayer aspect [...]

[News] Master Chief Returns to live-action in “Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn”

To those hankering for a dose of live-action Master Chief, prepare to be sated. Yesterday, Variety revealed “Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn,” a five-part web series releasing in anticipation of the upcoming shooter. Each (approximately) 15 minute episode will air on popular YouTube gaming channel, Machinima, as well as the Xbox Live hub, Halo Waypoint, in the weeks leading up to Halo 4’s release on November 6. According to Microsoft, the web-series represents the company’s “largest investment” in live [...]
