Lightning Returns Gets the Tomb Raider Outfit Treatment

Lightning is probably one of the coolest female game protagonists out there. So is Lara Croft. If you think that’s prime material for a crossover, then you’re in total agreement with Square Enix. Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII will feature a Tomb Raider outfit for Lightning. This is, of course, in addition to many of the other garb options she has such as the Cloud soldier costume and an Aerith outfit. The Lara Croft costume features the signature Tomb Raider outfit along with an axe and [...]

The Struggle Is Real In Tomb Raider 2 – SplitScreen

If you’ve been keeping up with the series so far, you’ll know that Henry is a total pro at this game. In this episode of SplitScreen, Henry and I (mostly the latter) struggle to maneuver around Venetian waterways  as we fight gunmen, angry dogs, and at least one awkward silence. Tomb Raider 2 is clearly trying to tell us something, but are we listening? Nope.

Is Angelina Jolie The Best Tomb Raider? – SplitScreen

Over the years, there have been at least three (that I know of) versions of Lara Croft. We have the original, notably risque version. Then there’s the  latest victim-turned-badass version seen in Crystal Dymanic’s 2013 Tomb Raider. But then there’s a third that most people would rather forget. In the early 2000′s, two relatively high budget action films were produced starring Angelina Jolie as the beloved Lara Croft. Despite being given generally negative reviews, the first movie was a box [...]

Tomb Raider Sequel Announced

By way of the internet, Square Enix CEO Phil Rogers took the time to address the fans. Much was said about the giant next-gen blockbusters Final Fantasy XV and Kingdom Hearts III, as well as being open to fan feedback on what the company can do to better provide an experience that has been all but lost in the past 10 years. A midst all of the coal that are words, there was a nugget of gold. A Tomb Raider sequel is coming to next-gen [...]

Heroes Week – Evolution of the Multi-Faceted Gaming Hero

This week is our self-proclaimed Heroes Week!  To commemorate heroism in gaming, I have decided to examine heroes of the past versus heroes of the present, what limitations contribute to their differences, why some heroes haven’t changed at all since their conception, and why a gaming hero doesn’t need superpowers.  STRAP IN! Let’s start out with a pretty clear cut protagonist who has had virtually no dynamic growth since his first appearance in 1981: Mario.  He was saving a princess [...]

Tomb Raider – Good Game, Horrible Prequel

I think Tomb Raider 2 was the first game I ever played. It was either that or Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee, but being the (slightly) less scary of the two, it was Tomb Raider that stuck around. We were a great team, Lara and me, and I’d spend hours sitting on the floor in front of the TV, the cogs and gears inside my infantile mind ticking away while solving the puzzles. Lara was a pretty great companion for a kid [...]

[PAX] Tomb Raider Hands-On: I Shot A Deer In The Butt

I hated Tomb Raider  when I was growing up. The controls felt clunky to me, I was confused about what the hell I had to do (though this can be attributed to being an idiot when I was little), and generally it was a bad experience that left a sour taste in my mouth all of these years. So then it was curiosity that brought me to Square Enix’s booth at PAX to play the newest adventure of Lara Croft. No longer a [...]
