Microsoft LogoAn early supporter of gaming since Direct X, Microsoft took their involvement into console gaming in 2001 with the Xbox brand, pushing to initially bridge PC technology into a living room space they brought a Western perspective to a 2 company industry. The platform pushed to develop online connectivity with friends lists, matchmaking and a dedicated network jack for broadband support.

Since that point, Microsoft has introduced the Xbox 360 which saw advancement of more living room features (video streaming, XBLA, Kinect) and a push to attract the hardcore audience to its online services and exclusive titles including Gears of War and Halo. Only in 2013 was it finally replaced by the introduction of the Xbox One, their latest push into a full living room solution for all entertainment purposes.

Final Fantasy XV and Kingdom Hearts III Listed On Japanese XBOX Website

The Japanese XBOX website has added Kingdom Hearts III and Final Fantasy XV to their listing of XBOX One games, complete with videos and screenshots we saw from last year’s E3. Both games have been described to be rather action-heavy and that the “specifications of next-generation” were utilised in development. The site’s description of FFXV boasts that its party battle system will be “more advanced” and be enjoyed “more strategically”.  Kingdom Hearts III on the XBOX site has been described [...]

Deadlight Goes Free For Xbox Live Gold Members

Yes, I know it is not as extensive, exciting, or useful as the PlayStation Plus system of giving you free games, but damn it, free games are free games. And to that end, I still highly anticipate the news about the next game going up under the Xbox 360 “Games for Gold” promotion. Especially when they give me awesome stuff like Hitman Absolution for free. However, I do not get especially excited when the game coming up is something I’ve [...]

Excavation Of Atari 2600 E.T. Landfill Cleared By New Mexico

One of gaming’s most famous ghost stories may soon have an actual conclusion. The famed E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial Atari 2600 landfill could be dug up soon, after being stonewalled by the New Mexico government for months due to environmental concerns. But, late yesterday, the New Mexico legislature gave the go ahead to excavate a proposed digging site just outside Alamogordo, New Mexico. You may have heard of this most recent effort, spearheaded by Lighthouse Interactive and Fuel Industries. Last year, [...]

Phil Spencer to Head Xbox at Microsoft

After the unfortunate news that longtime head of Xbox Marc Whitten would be leaving the company, many speculated as to who would take the newly opened position. Phil Spencer, previously in charge of the game development at Microsoft Studios, will now be in charge of all things “Xbox.” His statement explains that he “will now be leading the Xbox, Xbox Live, and creative teams including Xbox Music, Xbox Video and Microsoft Studios as we deliver the next generation of games [...]

Hitman: Absolution Coming to Games With Gold

A tweet has surfaced saying that Hitman: Absolution will be the newest edition to the Xbox 360 ‘Games With Gold’ program and will join the roster on April 1st and will remain free until April 15th. If this whole schtick sounds familiar to you, this same game was free on PS+ six months ago. While Sony announces a large list of PS+ games at a time, MS typically releases two games a month, and only for half of the month. Hitman will [...]

Microsoft Working on Xbox VR Devices

According to a report by the Wall Street Journal, Microsoft is working on VR devices for Xbox One and Xbox 360. Multiple sources confirm that the company is working on a VR headset and has already filed patents mentioning virtual reality tech. Microsoft clearly doesn’t want to be left behind by Oculus Rift and Sony’s rumored PS4 VR headset (expected to be unveiled at GDC).  A few years ago, Microsoft had filed a variety of patents that seemed to indicate what their [...]

Xbox One Launching Soon in 26 Markets

Xbox fans around the world were a little disappointed when Microsoft revealed that the Xbox One was going to be limited to only 13 markets back when it released in November. Now, at least some of those fans get some good news. Earlier today, Major Nelson announced that the Xbox One was going to be available in an additional 26 markets in September. Those markets are: Argentina Belgium Chile Colombia Czech Republic Denmark Finland Greece Hungary India Israel Japan Korea [...]

Titanfall-themed Xbox One Only for Dev Team

When the Xbox One development team received their own exclusive white consoles, the internet instantly threw a jealous fit. Now there is another reason to be jealous: Members of the Titanfall development team from Respawn Entertainment shared photos on Twitter of a Titanfall-themed Xbox One console exclusively made for them: Regardless of how pretty or ugly the console looks, the interesting part of this story is that the image of that same console was leaked by a Microsoft insider on NeoGaf a few months [...]

Plants vs Zombies Garden Warfare Review–Did Zoolander Make This?

Why might have Derek Zoolander made it? ‘Cause they’re both really really ridiculously good looking. If there is any single word that can describe Popcap’s Plants vs Zombies Garden Warfare it is absolutelyfrickinridicucrazy. Look it up. It’s strange to think that Plants vs Zombies started out as a simple mobile game when you see what it has evolved into. However without a doubt, it has all been for the better. The first thing that stands out about Plants vs Zombies [...]

Microsoft Announces Games With Gold For March

Today on Xbox Wire, Microsoft announced that Sid Meier’s Civilization Revolution and Dungeon Defenders would be March’s free games with the Xbox 360 Games with Gold program. I usually turn my nose up at whatever Microsoft is offering with their Games with Gold program, because of PlayStation Plus, but this March update is particularly good. Civilization Revolution is an excellent game, and a few of the staff had quite a bit of fun with Dungeon Defenders on the latest installment of We Suck At. Hopefully, Microsoft continues to give away great [...]
