Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag Gameplay Trailer – Exactly What You Think It Is

Assassin’s Creed is a series in which there are about a hundred reasons why I should be crazy about it, but it just doesn’t quite click with me. Thankfully for Ubisoft, my preferences don’t represent the majority of video game fans because every new one they churn out comes up solid gold. The latest installment, entitled Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag, features a new character named Edward Kenway. Kenway is a member of the British Navy in the early 1800s, [...]

He Said/Ubi Said – Patrice Desilets and Ubisoft’s Divorce v2.0

Much like Ezio having to relive a memory in the Animus, it feels like history is repeating itself once again. Patrice Desilets, the game designer best known for creating the Assassin’s Creed series, has left Ubisoft after a brief reunion brought about by the publisher’s acquisition of THQ in January. Desilets quit Ubisoft back in 2010 for THQ, and ended up back there, no doubt leading to him feeling this way. This news is all very sudden, and each party [...]

[PAX] Preview: Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag

If you were at PAX East this weekend, it was impossible to miss Ubisoft’s giant Assassin’s Creed IV booth. Inside Ubisoft was showing off two videos. The first was a couple of devs talking about their inspirations and goals for the game. Hit the jump for details on the second video.

[PAX] Preview: Watch_Dogs

Watch_Dogs is the latest effort from Ubisoft in which you take control of Aiden Pearce, a man whose goal is to protect his family by any means necessary. In Watch_Dogs exists the CtOS (Central Operating System) which controls everything in the city; water, power, and basically anything linked to technology. Aiden is a master hacker, but how did he get this power?

[News] Watch Dogs Shown Off at Playstation Meeting

The announcement that a preview of Watch Dogs was upcoming resulted in pants having to be changed. For the first time since its E3 introduction, we got to see something new from this highly anticipated IP. The demo showed the protagonist stalking around the city, hacking things, and some smooth flowing parkour. I called dibs on reviewing it before the demo even started, and I’m sure there are countless people excited for it to drop sometime in the future.

[News] Ubisoft’s Uplay to be selling games of competing publishers

According to Gamasutra, Ubisoft’s digital distribution service Uplay will begin selling games published by its competitors, such as EA. In turn, Ubisoft games begin to be sold on EA’s Origin platform. This is all part of an effort to improve their services, which are increasingly becoming more competitive with Steam. In addition to selling a larger selection of games, Ubisoft plans to emphasize Uplay as a social tool, and feature weekend sales. In an industry where digital distribution is becoming [...]

[LTTP Review] Far Cry 2 – Jumble Fever

If ambition were everything, Far Cry 2 would be one of gaming’s most highly regarded titles. Taking the basic premise from CryTek’s original game, Ubisoft reimagined the idea of Far Cry, but set it in a different kind of tropical setting. Relying less on level and objective-driven gameplay and more on emergent situations, this game strives to bridge the gap between a realistic simulation and a kick-ass action game. It is common knowledge that when a game tries to be [...]

[LTTP Review] Far Cry: If You Like Piña Coladas (and Getting Shot in the Face)

There are few series’ of the past decade more notable than Far Cry. What started as a tech demo for a new PC engine has evolved into one of the most strikingly gorgeous and narratively daring video game properties out there. I recently played and reviewed Far Cry 3 and marveled at how this series has evolved into an almost seamless gaming experience. Well, it’s been a bit of a long road from the experience of the first game which [...]

[News] Splinter Cell: Blacklist Release Date Announced

As someone who has made my feelings about the Splinter Cell series abundantly clear, it is with great excitement and anticipation that Ubisoft has announced its release date for Sam Fisher’s latest adventure. Splinter Cell: Blacklist will be coming out on August 20 2013, which is a bit of a delay from the original projected ‘Spring 2013′ period. At this time, it looks like it will be coming out on the PC, 360, and PS3, but a lot can happen [...]
