Destiny: The Taken King Improves Nightfall Strikes And Replaces Weekly Heroic Strikes

No more being returned to orbit.

As guardians prepare themselves for the September 15 release of Destiny: The Taken King, Bungie has slowly been revealing the massive new changes that are coming along with this expansion. In this week’s Bungie Weekly Update, players were informed that the newest improvements to the game will affect the Nightfall and Weekly Heroic Strike missions.

According to Bungie’s Luke Smith, “The death penalty of being kicked to orbit often leads to players feeling forced to play too safe, rather than running through the world as a monster killing machine.” As many players will be both overjoyed and relieved to hear, guardians will no longer be returned to orbit after failing the mission.

In addition, it bothered Luke Smith that, “players could feel forced to play Nightfall as early as possible in the week to maximize the benefit from the Nightfall buff,” so the buff has been eliminated for now while, “we can reform it into something closer to its original intent – a mark of prestige for having achieved something challenging.” In the meantime, Bungie has, “adjusted sources of XP and Reputation up to account for its absence.”

Lastly, the changes to the Nightfall missions also include:

  • Now Requires Level 40
  • Now uses 30 second time-out penalty for Death (same as Raid Normal)

As for the Weekly Heroic Strikes, you can say goodbye to them. They are being replaced with a Vanguard Heroic Playlist that includes these details listed from Bungie:

  • Requires Level 40
  • Instead, accounts receive Legendary Marks for completing the first three Weekly Strikes
  • Removed the Weekly Cap on how many Legendary Marks can be earned.
  • Guarantee a Legendary Engram drop from a character’s first clear of a Weekly Heroic Strike

For now, the update does not mention what is going to happen to the precious strange coins that used to drop from Weekly Heroic Strikes. But with all the new changes, guardians can almost be sure that one way or another, Bungie will still allow us to buy exotics and other goodies from Xur.

What do you think about these new changes to Nightfalls and Weekly Heroic Strikes? Overjoyed about not being returned to orbit? Annoyed that Weekly Heroic Strikes have been replaced? Be sure to let us know in the comments.
